New Sidewalk Project Safe Route to School

Sidewalks will provide safer pedestrian access to Southwest Park Elementary School

Posted: Jul 18, 2017

Tracy, Calif. – The City of Tracy has begun construction of a one-mile stretch of sidewalk along Mt. Diablo Avenue, Mt. Oso Avenue, and C Street to improve pedestrian access and safety to Southwest Park Elementary School. Construction activities began in June 2017, and improvements include the installation of shoulder, curb, and storm drain gutters along the stretch of sidewalk.

“The City Engineer’s Office has worked productively with the neighbors in the area to make this project happen. This project is a real show-case for the type of collaboration that is possible when concerned citizens and staff can come together to make a vision become a reality,” stated City Engineer, Robert Armijo.

The $1.2-million project was funded primarily through an Active Transportation Program (Safe Route to Schools) grant, Surface Transportation Program Local (STPL) funds; with additional funding from the Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP), and the City of Tracy. T&S West of Stockton was selected through a competitive bid process as the contractor for the project.

The project is expected to be completed in January 2018. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the project area and take alternate routes when possible.
