Veterans Honored with full day of Events in Tracy

A series of special events have been planned in Tracy in honor of Veteran’s Day this year. Beginning at 11 a.m., the American Legion Post #172 of Tracy will conduct their annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony at the Tracy War Memorial, located next to the Lolly Hansen Senior Center at 375 E. 9th Street. During the ceremony, guest speaker Fred Gowan will read the names of Tracy’s fallen soldiers followed by a 21-gun salute. Following the ceremony, the community is invited to the American Legion Hall at 1900 N. Tracy Boulevard for refreshments.

During the lunch hour, Texas Roadhouse in Tracy will serve free meals to active, former and retired military personnel from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. To be eligible for a free lunch, guests will need to show Proof of Military ID, Veterans Affairs Card or discharge papers. Tracy City Councilmembers and local officials will also be in attendance to help serve meals and welcome guests.
At 1 p.m., the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts in Downtown Tracy will present the movie Saving Private Ryan. The movie is open to the public, however, donations are being accepted and will go to support the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Following the movie, Congressman Jeff Denham (CA – 10th District), in collaboration with Honorable Han Dong-man, Consul General of the Republic of Korea, will host a special ceremony in honor of Korean War Veterans at the Grand Theatre from 4-6 p.m. Recipients will be issued special “Ambassador for Peace” medals. To be eligible for this medal, veterans must have served during the Korean War from June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953.
