PG&E, City of Tracy Upgrade Streetlights with New Energy Efficient Lights

Posted: Jun 4, 2014
Location: Tracy, Calif.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the city of Tracy began work today to upgrade 682 city-owned streetlight fixtures with new energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) lights. The new streetlights will provide brighter, more natural light to help improve public safety and lower the city’s energy costs.
As a result of this project, Tracy will save $62,000 annually in energy costs, receive more than $84,000 in PG&E energy efficiency incentives.
“LED lights will make our streets safer and offer significant long-term savings,” said David Ferguson, Public Works Director for the City of Tracy. “The money we save will offset the cost of the LED streetlights and the installation.”
Installation of the LED fixtures on 682 streetlights will take place on major city streets including Grantline Road, Tracy Boulevard, Schulte Road, West 11th Street and MacArthur Drive. Work will begin on the west side of town working east on Grantline Road, Schulte Road and 11th Street. The final stage will start north to south on Tracy Boulevard and MacArthur Road. The upgrades should be completed by June 16.
“PG&E is pleased to work with the City of Tracy to upgrade existing street light fixtures with energy-efficient lighting,” said Nick Glero, Stockton Division Manager for PG&E. “We will continue to collaborate with the city to provide Tracy residents with energy-efficient lighting that improves public safety and helps reduce Tracy’s carbon footprint.”
The project is being funded with a zero-percent interest loan offered by PG&E to municipal customers who are investing on energy efficiency projects.
