Accepting Applications for the Youth Advisory Commission

Posted: Apr 26, 2013

Tracy, Calif. – Have a voice and make a difference in your community by joining the Youth Advisory Commission. YAC is a great way for teens to get involved, develop leadership skills, take an active role in government and make an impact on the teen community.

The City of Tracy Recreation Division is now accepting applications for the Youth Advisory Commission. The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Youth & Teen Services staff, the Parks and Community Services Commission, City Council and other groups on matters relating to the youth in Tracy.

Arashpreet Gill, YAC Chair stated, “YAC is a truly amazing experience. I’ve gained a lot of confidence and leadership skills.”

Responsibilities of YAC are to recommend and assist in the planning and implementation of programs and events specifically for teens, organize community service projects, and attend monthly, scheduled meetings.

Adult Commissioners will have an opportunity to work with teens from all Tracy high schools, as well as city leaders and staff, to implement policies and programs that positively impact the youth of our community. Adult Commissioners mentor the teens as they work with them on subcommittees, special projects and attend monthly meetings. Adult Commissioners have the opportunity to share their life experiences with commissioners and help shape the future of Tracy’s youth.

If you think you have what it takes to be a Youth or Adult Commissioner, or you have some good ideas on how Tracy can be a better community for teens, then consider applying to become a part of YAC. Teens and adults in who live in Tracy or teens that currently attend a Tracy school in the 9th – 11th grade are welcome to apply. Pick up an application online at www.thinkinsidethetriangle.com.
