Amazon Fullfillment Center Slated for Tracy

Posted: Jan 22, 2013

*UPDATED*  Amazon employment related information may be found at http://www.amazonfulfillmentcareers.com/  The City of Tracy DOES NOT have any information relative to opportunities or recruitment timelines.  We encourage job seekers to regularly check Amazon's website.

Tracy is the new home of Amazon’s third California fulfillment center. The company announced today their plans to open a 1 million square foot state of the art center with the partnership of Prologis, a leading owner, operator and developer of industrial real estate.

This modern, secure and sustainably built facility has close proximity to the Bay area and the Capitol Region, creating a great advantage for Amazon to meet customer expectations in an efficient and timely manner. In addition to the City’s key location, Tracy has comprehensively prepared for this type of new development. The City’s new business friendly processes, lowered development impact fees, skilled and available labor force, and safe community has made Tracy poised and ready to meet the needs of a variety of new business investments.
Mayor Brent Ives states, “Over the past few years, we have streamlined our development processes, lowered our fees and forged business partnerships with our development community. I am honored Amazon recognized our efforts and made the decision to collaborate with the City of Tracy. The anticipated sales tax generated by Amazon will benefit the community as a whole. This will be the first of many new business announcements as we continue to prepare our community for future job generating developments.
Within the last two years, the Tracy City Council has amended the retail incentive program to include industrial as a means of attracting job-generating companies. Qualifying companies must meet the following criteria: (1) Generate annual gross sales of $100,000,000 or more; (2) Generate sales or use tax to the City corresponding to the gross sales; and (3) Provide a minimum of 1,000 jobs. It is unknown at this time if Amazon will apply for the program.
Building construction of the facility will commence later this year with an anticipated opening date of fall 2013. Amazon joins several other national fulfillment centers already located in Tracy, like; Best Buy, Crate & Barrel, Costco, Home Depot, Kellogg’s, Orchard Supply Hardware, Pepsi/Gatorade, Restoration Hardware, and Safeway.
