NUMBER OF VACANCIES:              One


POWERS AND DUTIES:                  As set forth in the State Health and Safety Code Chapters 5 and 6 of Division 3



MEETINGS:  The Mosquito Abatement District Board meets on the third Tuesday of the month, beginning at 1:00 p.m.


The Board takes all necessary steps for the extermination of mosquitoes and abatement of their breeding places throughout the District while conforming to all State Government Codes applicable to public agencies.  The Board is primarily the policy-making body for the District and sets its goals and objectives.


QUALIFICATIONS:  The San Joaquin County Mosquito Abatement District Board consists of not less than five members.  One member is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to represent the county-at-large.  One member each is appointed by the incorporated cities within the district, wholly or part. Additional members-at-large are appointed by the Board of Supervisors to provide for at least a five-member board.  All members shall be electors of the county that they represent.  Total board membership is dependent upon the number of cities represented.


The initial term of office for each member shall be two years.  Each subsequent consecutive reappointment shall be for a term of two years or four years, at the discretion of the City Council. Vacancies during a term shall be filled for the unexpired period of such term.  Members shall serve at the pleasure of Council and may be removed from office without cause upon an affirmative vote of four Council Members.


Board members shall be residents of the City of Tracy.  A member may not be an elected officer or an employee of the City.
