Redesigned Annual CleanUp Program

Posted: Jul 5, 2012

The City of Tracy is implementing a re-designed annual cleanup program effective immediately for Tracy residents.

The new program allows residents to schedule a free one-time curbside pickup per calendar year. This program replaces the spring and fall cleanup events, discontinued two years ago because of ongoing issues with illegal dumping, improper disposal of hazardous materials, scavenging issues, storm water concerns, and budget constraints.

Residents wishing to participate in this option are required to schedule their pickup day through the franchise waste hauler for the City of Tracy, Tracy Disposal at least a week in advance. Tracy Disposal will both schedule and track household participation to ensure compliance of the once a year per household regulation.
Public Works Director, Kevin Tobeck states, “This new program addresses the on-going issues the city experienced with the previous annual clean-up programs while providing residents with a free option to dispose of household waste on an individual basis”.  Residents must follow the disposal guidelines to participate in the program:
  • No more than Ten (10) 32-gallon containers (or equivalent) of refuse will be collected.
  • All refuse must be contained in 32-gallon cans, plastic bags, boxes, or bundles.
  • Bundles must not exceed four (4) feet in length and no container, bag, box , or bundle may exceed fifty (50) pounds.
  • Two (2) items of furniture, such as two (2) sofas, two (2) mattresses, two (2) recliners, or a combination of any two (2) large furniture items, may be placed curbside.
  • Appliances and electronic waste will only be accepted free of charge if Tracy Disposal is notified at the time of scheduling.  These items require special handling.
Materials not allowed as part of this special annual pickup program are:
  • Motor vehicle parts
  • Tires of any kind (we have vouchers for up to 4 passenger tires on the website)
  • Construction debris including fencing, piping, and sheet rock
  • Hazardous waste such as paint, motor oil, batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, household chemicals, sharps, etc.
  • Dirt, rock, concrete, asphalt, tile, sand, stucco, etc.
The City of Tracy offers appliance vouchers free of charge throughout the year. The vouchers are available online at www.RecycleInsideTheTriangle.com. The appliance voucher allows residents to dispose up to 2 large appliances, free of charge at the Material Recovery Facility (30703 South MacArthur Ave.), per year.
