Tracy 1 of 10 Cities in the Cool California Challenge

April 5, 2012 (Tracy, CA)-The City of Tracy needs the community’s help to make Tracy the Coolest California City.  Every member of the Tracy community, a resident, a business and/or an organization, can help make Tracy “cool,” one pound of CO2 at a time.

The CoolCalifornia Challenge is a fun, innovative competition between ten California cities to reduce the energy consumption use by residents and to build a more vibrant and sustainable community.

To participate in the Challenge, residents must visit http://coolcalifornia.org/community-challenge and set up a personalized account.  Participants perform actions to lower energy use.  Participants can also track their progress and earn points to win prizes from CoolCalifornia.org.  Participants earn points for past, current and new environmental stewardship actions.  For example, switching to energy-efficient light bulbs, unplugging computers and/or electronics when not in use, and weather-stripping windows and doors are all actions most residents perform daily.

"The Cool California Challenge is a unique opportunity for Tracyites to show how sustainable we can all become with a little personal ingenuity,” says Christina Frankel, Tracy resident Christina continues, “Since this is a friendly competition between other cities, local businesses and residents can show how unique we are in the City of Tracy.  Despite our size, Tracy has innumerable community spirit and strong sense of values that give us an advantage for this challenge-we can work together to win this! Come on Tracy, show your ‘green’ colors and outshine the other cities in California!"

The top three cities that earn the most points from April through July will advance into the finalist round, where the competition heats up.  Residents are urged to sign up today and participate with friends, neighbors and other Team Tracy supporters!  For additional information visit, www.coolcalifornia.org/community-challenge.
