Mayor Michael Maciel

Michael Maciel was elected as Mayor of Tracy in November 2014 and to City Council in November 2008. Michael has been a resident of the Tracy area for over 50 years. In 1975 after his military service, Michael worked in local agriculture on his family’s farming operation. In 1981, he became a volunteer Reserve Police Officer with the Tracy Police Department, and began a full-time law enforcement career in 1983.

Over the following 23 years, Michael held every rank in the Tracy Police Department except that of Chief of Police. During his career he had many opportunities to work with members of the community to solve neighborhood problems, fight crime, and enhance the quality of life for Tracy residents. Michael retired in 2006 with the rank of Captain.

Michael’s motivation for seeking public office was a strong desire to continue to serve the City of Tracy, and put the problem solving and decision making skills he developed as a Police Officer, Supervisor, and Administrator back to work for the community.

The top priorities Michael sees for City government is to enhance and encourage economic growth and job creation, ensure that Tracy remains one of the safest communities in California, and to continue Tracy’s evolution into one of the region’s truly fine cities.

Michael and his wife Marjorie have a blended family of six daughters and nine grandchildren, most of who live in the region.
