Proactive Enforcement Efforts to Prevent Illegal Fireworks Activity this Holiday Season Results in Arrest and Seizure of 58 pounds of illegal Fireworks

Tracy, Calif.Last week, members of the Tracy Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit arrested a Stockton resident who was selling illegal fireworks in the City of Tracy.  They confiscated 58 pounds of various aerial and explosive pyrotechnics, intended to enhance New Year’s Eve celebrations.  While we are all excited to celebrate the end of 2020, the Tracy Police Department would like to remind you that NO fireworks are legal this time of year.  In addition, the lack of rain and dry conditions here in the valley make fireworks even more dangerous. The city has experienced a 75% increase in fireworks-related calls for service, it is our intent to do our part by helping to keep Tracy safe.
In October, the City amended sections of Ordinance 1297 which now allows for homeowners to be issued citations for those in their residence who light fireworks. A homeowner also known as the "responsible party" need not be present at the time dangerous fireworks are possessed, sold, or discharged for the City to issue an administration citation.
The Police Department will be proactively enforcing this municipal code, between now and the end of the year. Additional enforcement will be out to ensure that our community remains safe this holiday season.
Please do your part by celebrating safely and report any dangerous situations to your local law enforcement. To report this activity, contact our non-emergency at 209-831-6550. These are normally calls that require immediate response.
