Fatal Collision 1400 Block of W. 11th St.

Tracy, Calif. On December 2, 2020 at 6:09 PM, Tracy Police Officers responded to an automobile vs. bicyclist collision on 11th St just west of Lincoln Blvd. When officers arrived, they located the 73 year-old male bicyclist down on the side of the roadway. Officers and Tracy Fire began life saving measures on the bicyclist and he was transported to San Joaquin County Hospital where later died of injuries sustained in the collision. The Tracy Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit was notified and responded to the scene.

The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The collision is still currently under investigation. Based on initial statements, it appears the bicyclist, who was wearing all dark clothing and riding a black bicycle, was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk where the railroad tracks cross 11th St. between Lincoln Blvd. and Alden Glen Dr. when he was struck. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The identification of the bicyclist is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. If you witnessed this collision, or can provide relevant information, please contact Officer Jared Trine at (209) 831-6545.

The Tracy Police Department would like to remind everyone to do the following while walking or riding a bicycle at night:

  •  Wear bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials
  • Cross the street in a well-lit area at night
  • Cross streets at marked crosswalks or intersections, if possible.
  • Look left, right and left again before crossing a street.
  • Look across ALL lanes you must cross and visually clear each lane before proceeding.
  • If riding a bicycle have an illuminated red light to the rear and white light in the front.
