Safe & Sane Fireworks Information Page
A local ordinance allowing for the sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks within Tracy city limities was approved by the Tracy City Council in May of 2011. Qualifying 501 (c) nonprofit organizations may participate in fundraising activities through the sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks. Safe and Sane Fireworks are those that bear the official seal of the California State Fire Marshal's Office. Fireworks that do not bear the official seal of the California State Fire Marshal are considered "dangerous fireworks" and remain illegal within the entire jurisdictional area of the South County Fire Authority.
Safe and Sane Permit Lottery
The maximum number of permits which the City may issue pursuant to Chapter 3.04 for any calendar year shall not exceed one (1) sales permit for each ten thousand (10,000) populartion or portion thereof. Safe and Sane Fireworks Seller's Permits are available to nonprofit organizations each year. All qualifying organizations are entered into a lottery process and the organizations are randomly selected to continue in the permitting process. Three alternate organizations are also selected in the event a previously selected organization is unable to complete the permitting process.
Safe and Sane Fireworks Regulations
All regulations and rules concerning Safe and Sane Fireworks sales can be found here. Safe and Sane Fireworks may only be sold between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on June 28, between 8:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. from June 29-July 3, and 8:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. on July 4.
