Tracy City Council Issues First LGBT Pride Month Proclamation, Pride Flag to Fly at Tracy City Hall on June 28, 2019

Community Invited to Raising of LGBT Pride Flag at City Hall at 8 AM

Posted: Jun 25, 2019
Location: Tracy, Calif.

On June 4, 2019, for the first time in Tracy history, the Tracy City Council issued a proclamation declaring the month of June “LGBT Pride Month” in the City of Tracy.  At the regular council meeting that followed, the Tracy City Council unanimously passed a resolution to raise the LGBT Pride Flag at City Hall on June 28, 2019 – commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.  The community is encouraged to join City Council and staff at 8 AM this Friday morning, June 28th, at Tracy City Hall for the raising of the LGBT Pride Flag in commemoration of this unique moment in American civil rights and City of Tracy history.

It was my honor to have presented the proclamation for LGBT Pride Month,” stated Mayor Robert Rickman, who presented the proclamation to Councilmember Dan Arriola, Tracy’s first openly LGBT elected official.

This is a historic moment, we have never recognized LGBT Pride month in the City of Tracy,” said Councilmember Dan Arriola, “this is about recognizing that LGBT people exist in our community and that they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.  This is about acknowledging that we, as a community, must oppose intolerance and hate.  This is about every young person who has moved away because they felt they had to move to a more accepting community.  This is about every parent who has had to console their LGBT child after being bullied in school.  This is about business owners who have to decide whether they’re going to raise a pride flag and determine how it’s going to affect their profits.  And this is about how 50 years ago, transgender LGBT people of color stood up against what were determined to be unconstitutional criminal laws and began a movement that got us to where we are today.  It’s taken 50 years.  Thank you to our LGBT community, our allies and the City of Tracy for getting us to where we are today.

All are encouraged to share this information and attend this historic and exciting event on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 8 AM at Tracy City Hall (333 Civic Center Plaza).
