Trees and Landscape Maintenance

The City of Tracy maintains City owned trees in the general fund area, as well as in the landscape maintenance districts (LMD). The tree maintenance program for both areas involves the inspection, preservation, trimming, removal and planting of trees along City streets and City property.

General Fund Street Tree Division

The City of Tracy Street Tree Division maintains City owned trees in non-Landscape Maintenance District areas, also known as General Fund areas.  Trimming is performed primarily following a programmed-pruning program, but also responds to specific work requests as needed.  The Tree Division also responds to storm events.

The General Fund Tree Division currently manages an urban forest consisting of nearly 7,000 existing trees and is attempting to replant many of the 4,000 plus trees that have been lost in past years.  Volunteer projects aimed at replanting City trees are always welcome.

Landscape Maintenance District Division

One of the reasons for Tracy's high quality of life is the way it looks: our neighborhoods have beautiful landscaping, parkways, neighborhood parks, natural flood control channels, and walking paths. And our new business parks have enhanced green space, too.

Tracy's Landscape Maintenance District maintain 48 mini parks, over 200 acres of landscaping, over 28,000 street trees, landscaped channel ways, and bike trails. The District's source of funding is the assessment that property owners pay with their property tax bill.

The extensive landscaping, lighting, and local parks within the District are assets to our community and to individual property owners. The parks and other green areas contribute to a sense of community pride. They provide places for our families to gather, participate in outdoor programs, and to wander and enjoy the natural beauties of our area.

The flood channels and decorative lighting help keep Tracy a safe place to live and work. An investment in these services and improvements is also a very personal investment since they add to our local property values.
