Each summer the City of Tracy, in cooperation with the San Francisco Giants, offers a Junior Giants Youth Baseball program. Junior Giants is the City’s largest single recreation program. Each year this program reaches capacity in most age divisions with over 500 local youth participating. Relying heavily on parents and volunteers, Junior Giants reaches into the community and offers children a chance to learn the basics of baseball but more importantly learn sportsmanship, teamwork, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility and fairness.
The program is open to both boys and girls and separate leagues are offered for the following age groups: 4-5 year olds, 6-7 year olds, 8-10 year olds and 11-13 year olds. Age divisions are based on the participant’s age as of June 1, 2011. League games begin play in early July and end in early August.
Junior Giants is different than most other youth sports programs in the following ways:
- It is a non-competitive league
- It is a free program
- It focuses on many life skills, not just sports
- Pitching machines are used
Participants will practice and play games each week at various City ball fields. Each participant will receive a complimentary Giants cap and Junior Giants t-shirt. They will also be eligible to participate in several Junior Giants programs that offer prizes and awards. And, best of all, the program is FREE!
