At last week’s City Council meeting a discussion regarding property maintenance approaches took place. Cities often use property maintenance approaches when dealing with private property that is abandoned, neglected or blighted. At the end of the discussion, Council decided that staff should work on building a property database with up to date property contact information. Staff was also tasked with defining a policy with deadlines to address boarded-up buildings.
In the midst of this discussion, city staff had to red tag a building on 10th & Central as hazardous. Understandably, residents are now asking if there are more buildings like that or in the same condition/situation.
What do you think? Is commercial/private property the city’s responsibility or is this intrusive govt.?
